Happy news at Disney-owned ABC: "ABC World News With Diane Sawyer" scored a close victory over "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" last week.
According to media writer Hal Boedeker at orlandosentinel.com, Sawyer and the ABC team posted a razor-thin win over Williams and NBC in the 25-to-54 age group, which is most important to news advertisers.
ABC won by just 38,000 viewers. ABC averaged 1.917 million viewers in the age group to NBC's 1.879 million. The "CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley" had 1.506 million in the age group.
Williams and NBC had been No. 1 in the count for 243 weeks.
NBC, however, rounded up its count to 1.9 million and declared a tie with ABC. And that proves that ratings can be read several ways.
NBC remains the No. 1 network in total viewers: "NBC Nightly News" averaged 7.536 million viewers to ABC's 7.287 million and CBS' 5.954 million.
