Long-time OM and PD/AM Host of rock/AC 97.3 FM WRVV Harrisburg, Pa, Chris Tyler, has left Corporate Circle building in Harrisburg Pa.
Tyler is apparently the latest victim of corporate-mandated cuts. Tyler has been at "The River" since 1992. 97.3 FM was the first station in the country to be brand "The River".
For now, Glenn Hamilton will fill-in mornings. JT Bosch PD of Country WRBT (BOB949) and CHR KISS-FM 99.3 WHKF will take on OM duties in Harrisburg. Bosch will also continue as PM Drive host on BOB.
I am so disappointed. First we lose Dena Joseph and now Chris - they were a great team. I'm thinking they were both fired because of something they said on the air - and some dumbass got offended and complained. Who cares. People say and do offensive things all the time. Get over it. Diana
ReplyDeleteHe will be a success, His gain, the stations loss
ReplyDeleteI cannot understand clear channels thinking. The one who put the River on the map is fired after 19 years. Who is the dumb ass that thought this up. Watch out River, the other rock stations are waiting to take over your listeners. Listen up corporate, you are next in line for firing. Chris will be missed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame that RIVER management doesn't get it. Chris was the morning show. He had a great following, and is missed. The new show is shallow, empty, overly cautious. (Two mornings and I am done.)One can only hope that the RIVER sinks quickly!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Chris Tyler overstepped his boundary on the air. Some mornings were riskay. I know that Clear Channel is a conservative run business that does not like liberal minded people, sorry but Chris just was to liberal for this company. If you do not like it then listen to TPA. If you like good quality rock and like the River then keep listening. Otherwise shut up and let the station move on. I know what I am talking about. I know the management. River will keep flowing even after the liberals are purged.
ReplyDeleteThis is the way it is. New station comes on the scene 92.7 competition very intense and being OM not good if ratings are in the crapper. It is all about dollars and if anybody needs fired it is sales people. As a DJ I cannot stand sales people. Chris will find another job at a better station. Scape goats are still around and Chris was just that. Watch it River there are new rock stations invading your territory. Get with it and play harder stuff. It won't hurt to try a little Metallica. Suck it up and get with it. More classic rock none of this new crap. OMG WTF it's a change WOW?
ReplyDeleteChris will be missed. I hope he is able to find a spot quickly....remember how quickly the two morning people at Mix 106.7 found new jobs after they got canned? I hope Chris and Dina can team up again someplace else. Chris was THE voice of the River. I see overnight man Chris Andre is doing Glenn Hamilton's mid day spot. I can't imagine the staff is very thrilled with this latest change that also let Dave Andrews and Chris Garrett loose. I have been a big fan of radio since I was a little boy and it has changed so much its all about corporate greed. I doubt it was anything Chris Tyler said. How could they drop someone with such a great voice and fairly good ratings? Does anyone know if Dina Joseph is still in radio locally or anywhere? I would agree they were a number one team!!
ReplyDeleteI've listened to the morning show with Chris Tyler for years, and feel very disappointed in this management decision to remove the very reason the River morning show was such a success. Christopher Paul Tyler was always putting the station out there, encouraging listeners to tune in at work, be part of the advisory board, and so on. I will continue to google his name; find out where he lands, and spread the word to others so that we can let Chris know we are listening........
ReplyDeleteI once floated down a River. It's tunes were great and strong. Then came the riffles, rough and long. I somehow got lost in the great stream. It's tunes and staff were no longer great, if you know what I Mean. The raft finally found the right current. I knew I wasn't to urgent. Safe and strong is the River now. But the one River I knew is now gone only listened to by corporate sows. I will miss that sound in the morn. I know my stream is now different, I mourn. RIP River you don't know how good you had it with Chris. I listen other places now for my music. What a shame. Darn shame. Signed Listener Gone.
ReplyDeleteI started listening to 92.7 and the music is great. No DJs but great music. I remember when the River played this stuff. Note to management. The listeners are always right. We know what we like. Sorry but you use to be a great station. Now you're just like an elevator music station . Signed Very Dissapointed.
ReplyDeleteChris Tyler was the reason Dina Joseph left the station, and he's the reason for not being there today.
ReplyDeleteFor some of the *disturbing* insults Chris would mention on air, I'm actually quite surprised that Dina Joseph and Bob Hauer didn't throw Chris onto Progress Avenue from the Station's second story window.
What surprises me even more is that some WRVV Listeners tended to either accept or tune out Chris' insults. Maybe his next gig will be a counterpart to Howard Stern.
I once was on the listener advisory board back in the late 90s, chris was there and asked for my opinion. i wanted more classic rock and less new junk. well he did not want to hear of it. now we have a local station that's going to play classic rock. chris also said that a rock station in baltimore would have a vehicle parked near the radio station and listen to what music the river was playing....not! baltimore and philly have classic rock stations now we finally will have our own..so long chris have a nice life
ReplyDeleteI am devastated by the loss of Chris Tyler, and previously Dina Joseph. My mornings will never be the same. Although I like Glenn Hamilton, Bob Hauer, and Jeni Gipe, I do not like Clear Channel at all. I however, like integrity as opposed to the secretive way these two wonderful employees became history with The River. For the first time in 19 years, I will be finding another radio station to listen to. Chris Tyler made my mornings. You had a good thing, Clear Channel, and you blew it bigtime.
ReplyDeleteI have swallowed my hate of CC to listen to The River because of people like Chris. No more, my presets are moving to WTPA and WKZF.
ReplyDeleteI only listen to the River as I pass thru since I don't live in Harrisburg and Chris Tyler was the reason. He and Dena Joseph were great together. Your channels aren't too clear, Clear Channel. Gonna start channel surfing and I NEVER did that when Chris Tyler was on the air. ADIOS!
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine that anyone will bother to listen to RVV in the morning without Chris. He was the reason I tuned in for many years.
ReplyDeleteWow - what is going on here? I really missed Dena Joseph and now Chris? And what is with these liberal/conservative comments? I am a conservative through and through and I was never offended by anything Chris said. I was only able to listen from 7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. and I always knew what time it was by listening to Chris' format. I miss his Friday a.m. anthem. As far as I'm concerned, Clear Channel is really making a bad name for itself. Just another example that loyalty doesn't get you anywhere these days. Good luck Chris - I'm rooting for you!
