Prosecutors in Sean "Diddy" Combs' case have decided not to pursue several allegations related to the racketeering charge, including attempted kidnapping, attempted arson, and aiding and abetting sex trafficking, as outlined in a letter to the judge filed Tuesday and obtained by Fox News Digital.
This move, made days before closing arguments, aims to simplify the jury instructions, according to the letter. Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani clarified that no charges are being dropped; the government is streamlining its legal theories, focusing on completed acts like the kidnapping of Cassie Ventura and Capricorn Clark and the arson of Kid Cudi’s vehicle as RICO predicate acts, while directly alleging Combs’ involvement in sex trafficking rather than aiding others.
Additionally, TMZ reported that Diddy’s defense planned to reference the Iran conflict in closing arguments, prompting objections from the prosecution. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey expressed concerns in court Tuesday, stating that invoking politics, current events, or the propriety of the prosecution would be objectionable.
She warned that such remarks during the defense’s summation could lead to objections and a request for the court to instruct the jury to disregard them.
