The White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, to resign amid allegations of improper conduct, Katie Zacharia, President Trump's new press secretary, announced on Tuesday.
"We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign," Zacharia said when asked about the status of her employment in Athens. "She has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well."
In a lengthy post on her personal X account on Tuesday morning, Guilfoyle acknowledged that "my time as Ambassador may be coming to an end." She also denied the "recent allegations" against her.

President Donald Trump said Monday he is considering dismissing Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid reports of alleged misconduct, adding that he is “not happy” about the situation.
“We’re looking at it — yeah. We’re not happy,” Trump told reporters when asked if he is considering firing the former panel member of FNC's The Five.
CNN reported Sunday that the president has been weighing whether to dismiss Guilfoyle, who was engaged to Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., for four years. A person familiar with the matter said he was expected to decide soon. The reports claim she accepted lavish gifts as ambassador and sought money in exchange for providing access to administration figures before she was confirmed.
Lawyers for Guilfoyle have denied the allegations about seeking money and said reports about her travel were misleading. They added that she complied with federal gift and reporting requirements.
The State Department’s Office of the Inspector General is investigating Guilfoyle amid the misconduct allegations, a source familiar with the effort told CNN on Monday. The office does not typically comment on ongoing investigations.
“As a matter of policy, OIG does not confirm, deny, or comment on investigative matters,” a State Department inspector general spokesperson told CNN last week.
The reports have irked senior administration officials, particularly because they emerged as Secretary of State Marco Rubio was visiting Athens for a high-profile speech on Western democracy delivered from the Acropolis. Trump offered no defense of Guilfoyle when questioned by CNN about the allegations Friday.
