Biden Drops Out of Presidential Race, Endorses Harris

President Biden said he was ending his campaign for a second term, after failing to quell a rebellion in his party. The Wall Street Journal reports Biden made the decision to exit the race Saturday evening, people familiar with his thinking said. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who said she plans to "earn and win" the Democratic nomination.

What to know:

  • Harris has received a wave of endorsements Sunday, including from some Democrats who had been mentioned as top presidential contenders. Here’s who has and hasn’t endorsed her.
  • If Harris clinches the nomination, possible running mates include Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.
  • ActBlue said small-dollar donors have contributed $46.7 million following Harris's campaign launch.
  • Sen. Joe Manchin said he is considering a presidential bid. Manchin caucuses with Democrats but recently changed his party affiliation to independent.
  • Some Republicans called for Biden to resign the presidency. Donald Trump said Biden was “not fit to serve.”
