Des Moines Radio: WHO Making Change In Mornings

This week's departure of Maxwell Schaeffer and Amy Sweet from their morning show on WHO 1040 AM marks a significant shift for the station.  Their departure comes shortly after the arrival of a new Program Director Peter Wilkinson Thiele.

After taking over the morning slot following Van Harden’s retirement in 2021, the duo—known for their “Max & Amy in the Morning” show—has bid farewell to the airwaves.

Key Points:

  • End of an Era: Schaeffer and Sweet will no longer greet Des Moines listeners with their familiar voices each morning.
  • Social Media Confirmation: Both hosts acknowledged their departure on social media platforms. Schaeffer hinted at a business decision during an interview.
  • Listener Appreciation: Sweet expressed gratitude to the WHO audience, recognizing their role in continuing the station’s tradition of excellent programming.
  • Uncertain Future: As iHeartMedia, the station’s owner, parts ways with the duo, the future of the morning show remains uncertain.
  • Listeners of 1040 WHO are left wondering what lies ahead for their mornings, as the familiar voices of Max and Amy fade into the radio waves’ past.
Schaeffer and Sweet’s history as co-hosts go before their time at WHO.  The duo previously co-hosted a KIOA morning show for more than a dozen years. The station parted ways with Schaeffer in 2018, and the radio personality joined WHO later that year.
