D/FW Radio: Jim White Retires At KZPS

Jim White

“Long” Jim White, cohost of Dallas-Fort Worth’s “The Bo & Jim Show,” knew he wanted to be on the radio when he was 14 years old. Now, after a 54-year career on the air, the KZPS Lone Star 92.5 on-air personality says he’s fulfilled that dream and is stepping away from the mic, according to the Star-Telegram.

White announced his retirement Tuesday, saying in a personal essay on the station’s website that he’s shared moments with bands old and new, laughed with Bo Roberts and their listeners and been surprised by his cohost’s “Corsicana wit that would crack me up, even after 45 years.”

“I loved sharing all the laughter, the music we played, sharing information about a band’s new album or concerts coming to town,” White wrote.

“But as you know, my real job was Monday through Friday on Q102 and later on KZPS/Lone Star 92.5. Waking up at 1:20 AM, see Bo at 2:45 AM. Both of us still shaking off the Sandman trying to find anything that was funny or interesting to tell you about.”

And if there wasn’t any news that White thought would make his listeners laugh, he could always count on Roberts to turn something he said into a joke, he wrote.
