Cherie Grzech Named Managing Editor At NewsNation

Cherie Grzech, a former Fox News vice president, is joining Nextstar Media Group Inc.'s NewsNation network as vice president of news, managing editor, effective July 19.

The Chicago Business Journal reports she'll report directly to Michael Corn, who was appointed to his NewsNation president of news post last month.

Nextstar said Grzech will oversee the network’s day-to day news gathering and production process and supervise a staff of more than 100 reporters, producers, writers, and photojournalists. Prior to her three-year stint as Fox News VP, she was Fox News’ senior director of politics in Washington, D.C.

“Throughout her nearly 30-year career in broadcast journalism, Cherie has consistently demonstrated the ability to develop and execute comprehensive strategic plans for covering local, national, and international news and events,” Corn said in a statement.

Corn and Grzech join Chicago-based NewsNation at a pivotal time. NewsNation was formerly known as the WGN America cable channel. Irving, Texas-based media company Nexstar (Nasdaq: NXST) dramatically increased the amount of news programming at the channel, but the increase in news doesn't appear to be making much of a dent in the channel's ratings.

Corn took over from Jennifer Lyons, who was tasked at getting the fledgling news operation up and running in Chicago, but who left three months ago.

In April, the L.A. Times reported that NewsNation was rife with internal strife over allegations of higher-ups meddling in news coverage and the network was accused of leaning to the political right, especially with its coverage of President Donald Trump last year.
