Report: Country Tune-Ins Increased During 2019
Country music listeners who tune in daily has increased slightly over the past six months, from 25% in May 2019, to 27% by the end of 2019.
“The fact that Country Music is garnering more daily listeners means we are connecting more frequently with our audience,” says Karen Stump, CMA Senior Director, Market Research. “We’re converting casual listeners to more engaged listeners.”
The research is based on a sample of more than 12,000 music listeners over the age of 18. The data was collected monthly beginning in 2019.
These stats are released via the CMA’s newly-launched product Trend Watch, which offers a monthly look into the behaviors of country music consumers. The tool is exclusive to active CMA members.
Below are highlights:
1. The number of Daily listeners among the Country audience saw a slow and steady climb over the past 6 months; up from 25% in May to 27% by year’s end.
2. The shift in more daily listeners is most evident among 18-34 and 50-64 year old Country listeners. Level s of daily users remained steady across all platforms, except satellite radio which experienced a growth in daily users.
3. The average Country music listener spends about 50% of their music listening time tuning into Country and the same share of time with non-Country genres. These listening shares can vary by platform, demographic, and geographical factors.
4. The overall Country Audience size held steady across 2019 with 1 in 2 adults tuning into Country Music monthly or more frequently.
5. Satisfaction with Country music content on various platforms increased over the research study period. (satisfaction rated as “very satisfied”)
