Americans Expected To Wage $6B ON Super Bowl
Is there anything more American than the Super Bowl?
The American Gaming Association conducted a survey, and say 22.7 million Americans plan to place a wager on Super Bowl LIII this Sunday.
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) last year, which basically gave all states the right to legalize sports gambling, and since then eight states have done so.
The survey revealed one-in-ten adults plan to bet on the game between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams, and they plan to wager $6 billion on the game; 1.8 million plan to bet illegally (through a bookie, this number does not include millions that will be bet through offshore, online sports books.)
Also, 52 percent said they will bet on the Rams, while 48 percent said they will bet on the Patriots.
AGA President and chief executive officer Bill Miller said in a statement, "The interest in legal, regulated sports betting in the United States has never been higher. More Americans than ever before will be able to place their bets with legal sportsbooks now operating in eight states, generating valuable revenue for state, local and tribal governments and increasing fan engagement with the game."
