Steele announced in May that he was suffering from colon cancer.

Mike Steele loved radio the way you're supposed to, was a deep-track music lover and was up for any job you threw his way," WXDX morning show host Abby Krizner tweeted. "I'm lucky to have worked with him and this is another one that aches for our iHeart family."
According to the WDVE website, Mr. Steele started out at 106.7 The Force in Beaver Falls. He was present for the transition when The Force became 105.9 The X in 1995. After a few years he moved to Austin, to work for Rock Station KLBJ. He returned to Pittsburgh and WDVE in 2011.
