Gregg was just 49 years old, according to family. Scharnau left the air last July to spend time with family and concentrate on fighting the cancer.
He began his career at KDTH-AM/KATF-FM in his hometown of Dubuque, Iowa and spent time on air in Princeton, Illinois before settling in at KRNA in the late 90's. The Shark - as he was affectionately known was best known for an encyclopedic knowledge of rock and love for his wife Susan and their four children.
