KKHH HOT 95-7 FM Houston partnered with Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union (GCEFCU) to surprise Ridgecrest Elementary teacher, Rafael Carballo with a cash prize on November 19th.
Morning show host, Sarah Pepper came to the school with GCEFCU to giveaway $500 to Carballo through the Sarah Pepper Cares Initiative. Carballo was nominated, along with hundreds of other well-deserving teachers in an online call to action for students. Students from all over Houston submit nominations each month in an effort to award their teacher with much-needed funds for their classroom.
Carballo was overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement to learn he was the winner, “I want to share this money with everyone. Who wants to go on a field trip?”
Patricia Thomas, Principal, said she appreciated all of the passion and selfless dedication her educators put into their profession. She spoke highly of the incredible team environment at Ridgecrest Elementary, stating, “That’s the epitome of the team we have here at Ridgecrest Elementary. Mr. Carballo shares his gift with everyone because that’s what teams do and we are a team!”
HOT 95-7 Sarah Pepper Cares Initiative and GCEFCU are a team as well. Both parties plan to continue recognizing educators throughout Houston this year and in 2016. Students are encouraged to visit the HOT 95-7 website to nominate their teacher each month on the station's website.
