Media Attoryney David Oxenford of Wilkinson Barker Knauer in Washington, DC, reports that the FCC released word Friday of an EEO audit where a long list of radio and TV stations will be required to file with the FCC their last two years’ Annual EEO Public File Reports along with backing document s to support the information on the annual public file reports.
The stations subject to the audit have until April 1, 2019 to compile and submit the required information.
If any station in an employment unit (a group of commonly owned stations serving the same general geographic area and having at least one common employee) is listed among the stations to be audited, the information in the audit response should cover all of the stations in the employment unit.
The FCC, when it adopted the current EEO rules over a decade ago, promised to audit 5% of all stations each year to assess their EEO compliance. This is the first such request of 2019.
