Brendan Carr, the FCC Chairman-designate, is focusing on media trust as a key issue.
He has expressed concerns about declining public trust in media and suggested that the FCC will revisit what it means for broadcasters to operate in the public interest. Carr emphasized that broadcast licenses are not "sacred cows" and that failure to meet public interest obligations could result in license revocation.
The exact definition of public interest obligations remains to be clarified, especially after comments made by President-elect Donald Trump about perceived partisan coverage by ABC and CBS. Carr has also mentioned revisiting a previous FCC decision involving Democratic donor George Soros' ownership ties to Audacy's restructuring.
