Doug Adair, a longtime TV news anchor in the Cleveland area who got his start at WJW Channel 8 in the 1950s, has died at the age of 89, according to to cleveland.com.

He died Monday in Pleasanton, California, because of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

Adair's broadcast career began in Dayton. Adair became a reporter for WJW Channel 8 in 1958, then became a co-anchor on the station’s “City Camera News” show in 1964. He teamed with Joel Daly to become to first two-man anchor team in Cleveland to report news from the same desk, and it became the most-watched television news program in the city.

He joined WKYC Channel 3 in 1970 and co-anchored the evening news program. Adair eventually married co-anchor Mona Scott and they became on on-air duo until they moved to Columbus to anchor WCMH in 1983. They divorced in the early 1990s.

Adair was Ohio’s longest-serving news anchor when he retired 1994, WCMH reports. He is a member of the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
