Steve Butler, News Format Captain and Director of News and Programming for KYW 1060 AM Philadelphia, will exit at the end of the year or when a replacement is named.
Sources said Butler informed his staff via email that the decision to leave was his and that he would stick around to help Entercom Communications Corp. Philadelphia Market Manager David Yadgaroff identify a successor.
Steve Butler has been with KYW for the past 21-years.
Butler was VP/Radio News for the CBS Radio station group, acting as corporate liaison for the eight all-news stations owned by the company.
After graduating from Temple University and a year-long stop at WTTM in Trenton as legislative reporter, Butler joined the KYW Newsradio staff in 1979 as a news writer and reporter. He covered the transportation and City Hall beats until 1985, when he left to be a field producer at WCAU-TV.
Returning to KYW Newsradio as news director and executive editor in 1986, Butler left again in 1989 to oversee editorial operations at Inside Radio, a daily trade publication.
Since 1997, Butler has been back at KYW Newsradio to supervise all on-air production and content of the station.
Decision was his? Methinks NOT.
