Wisconsin Public Radio To Split Into Two Channels

Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) is undergoing exciting transformations this spring! After extensive analysis, audience research, and careful planning, WPR is reorganizing its statewide service to enhance your experience with the news and music programs you love. Here are the key changes:

Network Renaming and Restructuring: Starting Monday, May 20, WPR’s two existing networks — “NPR News & Music” and “The Ideas Network” — will be renamed and restructured as follows:

WPR News: This network will incorporate the majority of programs from the current “The Ideas Network.” With reporters in eight local bureaus, WPR News provides unparalleled coverage of Wisconsin issues, along with national and global news from NPR and BBC.

WPR Music: Offering an expanded, locally-hosted classical music schedule seven days a week, WPR Music will also feature jazz, world music, and folk music on weekends. Beloved hosts like Stephanie Elkins, Norman Gilliland, Lori Skelton, Ruthanne Bessman, Dr. Jonathan Øverby, and Sile Shigley will curate beautiful music and performances you won’t find anywhere else.

“Wisconsin Today”: Co-hosted by Kate Archer Kent and Rob Ferrett, “Wisconsin Today” will cover current and emerging issues from a distinctly Wisconsin perspective. Tune in each weekday morning at 9 a.m. for the latest news and culture, or catch it online at wpr.org1.

Radio Reset: All of WPR’s 38 stations will shift format to either WPR News or WPR Music. Most listeners will be able to hear both services where they live, but you may need to reset your radio to access the programs you want. In Milwaukee, where WPR operates only one station, WPR Music will replace “The Ideas Network” on 90.7 FM.

Both networks and all WPR shows are available online via the free WPR mobile app and smart speakers, regardless of your location1.
