McCrea said guest hosts have been lined up to substitute for Mickelson who has been with the station for 27 years.

WHO Program Director Van Harden confirmed Wednesday that Mickelson had a stroke.

"We're told the prognosis is good," Harden said in an email to The Des Moines Register.

He was transported taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, where medical professionals confirmed he had suffered a stroke.

Mickelson said he was flown by a medical helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, where he received treatment to dissolve a blood clot as well as a relatively new neurological surgery that removes the clot from the artery.
