The husband and wife team had been on-air for 8-years and were
told the station was "Going in a different direction."
That direction apparently is Tony Zazza, who shifts from
middays.
Gene released a statement that read "Right before Christmas,
we were disappointed to learn from our new boss that we would no longer be
working at 103.7 Lite FM .. It has been an honor to host mornings at the
legendary KVIL for nearly 8 years and we never took that responsibility
lightly. "
As for the future, they added: "We don't know. We love
radio and North Texas is our home ... While we try to figure it out, we will
concentrate on opening our restaurant Battuto Italian Kitchen in Far North
Dallas (hopefully a late-February launch)."

I guess I will stop listening to 103.7. The radio business must be rough. One day someone is there, the next they are gone without explanation.

ReplyDeleteLike Uh Merry Christmas. The station will continue with or without those who will not listen anymore. For me its a personal choice. I wont listen and hope them the best and they land at a better station. Really, the station couldn't pick a better time to do this? Its all about money, no company cares about people anymore, its just "a business decision."

ReplyDeleteGood decision. The morning show was too much "pillow talk" of their home life.... Suggest they really look for jobs (separately) that will be more interesting -- for us and for them. Hate to see anyone loose their job -- but this was the right decision.

DeleteI agree. Good decision. I felt he was often rude and I did not like when he put his wife down. He was the reason many of us would listen to other stations in the morning. I felt he was often very condescending and his comments often made many of us uncomfortable. I am enjoying the morning show now and hope they keep Tony on in the mornings. I do wish Gene and Julie success in their new venture.

ReplyDeleteI'm sad to hear they were let go, they were good to listen too, especially with young kids in the car. I'm not a fan of Tony, I don't care for his voice or personality. I think 103.7 made a terrible decision and I will not be listening any longer. The ONLY reason I continued to listen was because I was waiting and hoping that Geene and Julie were returning.

ReplyDeleteSorry, Tony is no Gene and Julie. My daughter and I spent many mornings laughing and starting our day in a great way with Gene and Julie. I hate that the station was narrow minded and had little concern the the opinions of the listners. I miss Gene and Julie even though our other beloved Julie and David are still there, there is no chemistry between them and Tony. I will always have the memory of cranking the radio up and singing at the top of our voices to Dominick the Donkey so many times and laughing all the way to school and work. Thank you Gene and Julie and God Bless you for the memories. KVIL YOU STINK!!!!!!!!!!!

My morning commute is 45 to an hour drive to work & I just couldn't wait to listen to Gene & Julie. Sorry to see yall let them go, but I hope to hear them on another radio station soon.

ReplyDeleteAgreed...KVIL made a huge mistake letting them go...and once all the chips fall and the ratings go down...the "new boss" will probably be put on the chopping block next! Most of the posts here are very favorable of Gene & Julie...why isnt KVIL listening???

I've listened to KVIL for years, but sorry to say - I'm now looking for a different station. Miss Gene and Julie and the chemistry between them and Julie and David.

ReplyDeleteI loved listening to my favorite husband and wife duo in the mornings on my way to work... Now that they are no longer on the air I'm no longer a listener... Zaza is annoying... And I hope whoever the money hungry joker that made this awful decision is next in line for the "cut". I work for the largest telecommunications company in the world and in a building of over 400 employees who I would say at least 80% also listened faithfully have all also switched to other stations. We refuse to help your ratings when you obviously don't care about what the listeners wanted.. 103.7 you are officially a thing of the past and I hope your decision to let go of the best bites you in the #%@ !!!

ReplyDeleteSo glad they're gone. Too much Christian music in the mix and the marriage rating got old. Also got tired of the sappy kid crap at Christmas. I complained to the station a lot about them.

Isn't that always the way it goes. New management, new hosts...unhappy listeners. I too am looking for a new station. Don't care for the rap and hip hop stuff being played lately either.
ReplyDeleteNow it seems that Zazza and Julie are now gone too. Here one day, gone the next without a trace. I think they made a mistake when the added Megan and Nick. They were two young box of rocks who did not have a clue. The show was better with Tony, Julie and John in the background. I am so sad for Julie and Tony losing their jobs. I really hate that..
