RIP: Broadcasting Exec Ann Arnold

Ann Arnold, the longtime president of the Texas Association of Broadcasters who served as press secretary to Gov. Mark White, the first woman to hold that post, died Saturday after a decades-long battle against leukemia,  according to a story by Mike Ward at statesman.com.  She was 67.

She was found dead at her office.

Arnold, who previously had an award-winning career as a newspaper reporter, had headed the broadcast industry group since 1987, during a time of sweeping change in that business from cable to phone to Internet service.

During her tenure she pushed for advancements in the emergency alert system and lobbied for legislation that guaranteed viewers would receive all FCC-licensed broadcast stations.
