Pittsburgh Radio: Kenny Woods Retiring From WOOD-FM

Kenny Woods

Veteran Pittsburgh disc jockey Kenny Woods is retiring from WORD-FM at the end of this week.

The longtime morning host at the predominantly religious-formatted station announced his departure on social media, calling it “retirement week” with his final day set for April 30.

“This has been coming for a long time, but now that the final day (4/30) is looming it’s a little weird,” Woods wrote.

“Radio (primarily WVAQ, WYDD/WNRJ, 3WS and WORD-FM) has been the only job I’ve ever wanted or had.”

Woods spent his entire career in Pittsburgh-area radio, fulfilling a childhood dream that began on a rural Allegheny County farm, where he listened to distant AM stations under his pillow at night.

He leaves the station after decades on air. WORD-FM has not yet announced a replacement for his morning show.

Woods is married with one daughter, a son-in-law, and two grandsons. In his spare time, he enjoys chasing deer, coyotes, squirrels, raccoons, and groundhogs from his backyard instead of keeping pets. He jokingly told listeners he might one day greet them at Walmart if he needs extra cash.
