Lee Enterprises is further reducing its print operations, announcing that several of its daily newspapers will cease Monday print editions starting November 3.
Affected publications include the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Omaha World-Herald, Lincoln Journal Star, Buffalo News, Quad City Times, and Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Alan Achkar, executive editor of the Post-Dispatch, stated that the shift will allow the company to focus resources on high-demand digital products while maintaining its commitment to local news. He noted that a later deadline will enable more timely online news delivery, according to St. Louis Public Radio.
In its Q3 financial report, Lee Enterprises’ CEO Kevin Mowbray highlighted cost reductions in print operations and corporate overhead, with reinvestments in digital growth areas. Print advertising revenue dropped to $17.4 million in Q3 from $18.9 million the previous year, with year-to-date figures falling from $62 million to $53.8 million.
The company also incurred over $2 million in recovery costs following a February cyberattack.
