Columbia SC Radio: Johnny Green Honored For Outstanding Leadership

announces that the “World Famous Johnny Green,” longtime on-air personality on Urban AC station Kiss 103.1/WLXC-FM will be honored for outstanding community leadership by the Columbia Branch of the NAACP. 

Green will join other community leaders and change-makers receiving special awards at the 38th Annual Freedom Fund Awards Gala on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 7:00pm at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1100 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC. This year’s gala theme is “Remembering the Legacy.”

Green is a popular Columbia media personality heard on Kiss 103.1 Monday through Friday from 10:00am-3:00pm and on the award-winning “Saturday Night Juke Joint” every Saturday night at 7:00pm. 

For 20 years, he and Kiss 103.1 have supported the Annual Dr. James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Walk honoring children, adults, and families living with sickle cell disease and raising funds for the James R. Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund. Other charitable causes Green has supported through his over 25 years on Columbia’s airwaves include: Alex English - Let's Share Foundation, RCCASA Foundation, Juneteenth Festival, National Association Of College Deans, Registrars, and Admissions Officers, and SC Uplift Community Outreach.

Keynote speaker for the gala is the Rev. Nelson B. Rivers, III, Pastor of Charity Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston and co-president of the Charleston Area Justice Ministry. Rev. Rivers, a national voice for civil rights, has appeared on CNN, NPR, and 60 Minutes and is the recipient of South Carolina’s highest honor, the Order of the Palmetto.

Other NAACP Freedom Fund honorees this year include Michael Spencer, Rev. Thurmond Bowens, Jr., Tiffany Wider, Rep. Leon Howard, and Dr. John H. Dozier.
