New Political Podcasts Show Dramatic Growth

New podcasts focusing on politics and news have attracted thousands of subscribers and soared past more established competitors in the same space, according to TheRighting’s exclusive analysis of subscribers on the Castbox podcast platform.

Five podcasts launched within the last 14 months are now among the top 50 podcasts by subscribers, TheRighting’s research found.

Those relatively new podcasts include:
  • The Tucker Carlson Show.” Castbox subscribers: 137,745. Launch date: May 2024. Rank: #13.
  • “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.” Castbox subscribers: 128,040. Launch date: June 2024. Rank: #15
  • “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson.” Castbox subscribers: 82,551. Launch date: March 2025. Rank: #22
  • “Candace.” Castbox subscribers: 47,322. Launch date: June 2024. Rank: #33
  • *"The Conversation with Dasha Burns.” Castbox subscribers: 28,291. Launch date: June 2025. Rank #48
TheRighting’s analysis revealed that 29 of the political/news podcasts in TheRighting’s top 50 chart were mainstream, progressive or tilted left; 21 of the podcasts were right-wing, conservative or leaned right. The leading podcast publisher was The Daily Wire, which landed five programs in the top 50; NPR and Crooked Media, each had four shows.

“Ten percent of the new podcasts in TheRighting’s top 50 politics/news chart were launched within the last 14 months,” said Howard Polskin, President, TheRighting. “This reflects a meaningful influx of podcasting talent as well as a growing consumer appetite for new programs,” said Howard Polskin, President, TheRighting.

Polskin noted the strong subscriber numbers for both “The Tucker Carlson Show” and “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart,” which each generated more than 100,000 subscribers on Castbox in just over a year since their launch. Another new podcast success is “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson” which ranked #22 a mere four months after its debut. It now ranks higher than stalwarts like “The Matt Walsh Show” and “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

“‘IMO’ program appears to have significant traction with consumers and it’s not unrealistic to assume that Michelle Obama could become a real power in this space,” Polskin said.

Notable political and news podcasts that launched in 2025 that didn’t make TheRighting’s top 50 podcast chart include:
  • “This is Gavin Newsom,” 16,797 subscribers. Launch date: February 2025
  • “Next Up with Mark Halperin,” 5,000 subscribers. Launch date: April 2025
  • "Pod Force One,” the New York Post’s heavily promoted podcast featuring columnist Miranda Devine,” 941 subscribers. Launch date: May 2025
