Greg Hill, former WAAF and current WEEI radio host, expressed deep sorrow over the death of his longtime cohost Lyndon “LB” Byers on Monday’s The Greg Hill Show on WEEI.
Hill, who was friends with Byers for 34 years and worked with him for 23 years at WAAF, said he was “gutted” by the loss.
Drafted by the Boston Bruins in 1982, Byers played nine seasons with the team through 1992, known for his tough, fan-favorite style, helping the Bruins reach the Stanley Cup Final in 1988 and 1990. He later played one season with the San Jose Sharks before retiring.
After his hockey career, Byers joined Hill at WAAF, cohosting The Greg Hill Show until 2019 when Hill moved to WEEI. WAAF ceased broadcasting in 2020. Byers occasionally called into Hill’s WEEI show, with their last conversation about a month ago when Byers was hospitalized.
Hill emphasized the importance of checking in on loved ones, reflecting, “You just never know.” He also highlighted Byers’ Boston spirit, noting, “He came here and turned into more of a Bostonian than many locals.”
