Terry Moran, a senior national correspondent for ABC News, was suspended Sunday, after posting a late-night rant on X targeting White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and President Donald Trump. In the now-deleted post, Moran called Miller a “world-class hater,” claiming his “hatreds are his spiritual nourishment” and that “he eats his hate.” He also labeled Trump a “world-class hater,” but suggested Trump’s hatred serves his own glorification, unlike Miller’s, which Moran described as driven by “bile” rather than intellect.
Here's what he posted:
The post, made around 12:06 a.m., sparked swift backlash from Trump administration officials. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called it “unhinged and unacceptable,” demanding ABC take action, while Vice President JD Vance labeled it a “vile smear” dripping with hatred, defending Miller as motivated by “love of country.”
ABC News responded by suspending Moran, stating the post violated their standards of objectivity and impartiality, which do not condone personal attacks. The network emphasized that Moran’s views did not reflect their own, and he was suspended pending further evaluation.

Moran, a veteran journalist with ABC since 1997, has covered major events like 9/11 and served in roles such as chief White House correspondent. He had recently interviewed Trump in April 2025, an exchange noted for its tension when Moran pressed Trump on immigration claims.
The suspension comes amid strained relations between ABC and the Trump administration, following a $15 million defamation lawsuit settlement in December 2024 over comments by anchor George Stephanopoulos.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and mainstream media, with Miller, a polarizing figure known for shaping Trump’s hardline immigration policies, often facing sharp criticism. Some sources note Miller’s ties to far-right groups, as documented in a 2020 book, “Hatemonger,” though his defenders argue he’s unfairly targeted.
