R.I.P.: David 'Ace' Cannon, Beloved Charlotte Morning Host

David Cannon (1967-2025)
David "Ace" Cannon, who was part of the beloved Charlotte morning-radio team "Ace & TJ" for over 25 years, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 56, following his unexpected exit from the show last fall.

His death was announced by HITS 96.1, an iHeartMedia station where he previously worked, describing him as "an important part of so many people's lives, providing companionship and laughter to his many listeners and colleagues."

Cannon co-hosted "The Ace & TJ Show" from 1993 until September 2024, initially broadcasting in Louisiana and Alabama before relocating to Charlotte in 1998. Despite changing stations, the show remained a fixture in Charlotte's radio landscape.

Following his death, numerous former listeners took to social media to express their gratitude for his contributions.

Cannon left "The Ace & TJ Show" unexpectedly in September 2024, leading to the show's rebranding as "The TJ & Riggins Show." He made a public statement in October 2024 regarding his departure and future plans.

The show's official statement on social media expressed their devastation and extended prayers for their "brother."

The cause of Cannon's death has not been disclosed.
