FOX Business Network (FBN) ended the third quarter of 2024 outpacing CNBC in total day viewers for the second consecutive quarter, according to Nielsen Media Research. The network also placed 10 of the 20 most-watched business programs on television.
As market uncertainties related to the 2024 president election drove the news cycle, FBN delivered its second straight quarterly win with 126,000 viewers across total day (6 AM-6 AM/ET), a 4% advantage over CNBC. Additionally, the network drew in 169,000 viewers during the critical market hours (9 AM-4 PM/ET) and 183,000 with business day hours (9:30 AM-5 PM/ET).
Larry Kudlow’s eponymous Kudlow (weekdays, 4 PM/ET), placed first in all business news programs for the 11th straight quarter garnering 303,000 viewers, a 76% advantage over CNBC. The program also delivered a 12% increase in viewers year-over-year. Stuart Varney’s three-hour market-open program Varney & Co. (weekdays, 9 AM-12 PM/ET) ranked second in the top 10 business programs on television with 221,000 viewers. The program beat CNBC’s Squawk on the Street/TechCheck for the 10th consecutive quarter with viewers.
Leading into the market open, Maria Bartiromo’s critical three-hour pre-market program Mornings with Maria (weekdays, 6-9 AM/ET) earned 104,000 viewers and marked its sixth consecutive quarter beating its CNBC counterpart Squawk Box. FBN’s core Business Day programs including CAVUTO: Coast to Coast (weekdays, 12 PM/ET; 133,000 viewers) anchored by Neil Cavuto, The Big Money Show (weekdays, 1 PM/ET; 126,000 viewers), Making Money with Charles Payne (weekdays, 2 PM/ET; 140,000 viewers) and The Claman Countdown (weekdays, 3 PM/ET; 144,000 viewers) anchored by Liz Claman all scored placements in the top 20 business programs on television. During post-market coverage, FBN’s The Evening Edit (weekdays, 5 PM/ET; 169,000 viewers) with Elizabeth MacDonald and The Bottom Line (weekdays, 6 PM/ET; 154,000 viewers) with Dagen McDowell and Sean Duffy each trounced CNBC for the second back-to-back quarter, and each delivered double digit advantages over Fast Money and Mad Money, respectively. Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street (Fridays, 7-7:30 PM/ET; 91,000 viewers) posted a 32% advantage over CNBC’s programming and Barron’s Roundtable (Fridays, 7:30-8 PM/ET) posted double digit advantages versus second quarter 2024.
FBN also scored five of the top 20 most-affluent cable news programs with A25-54 for the quarter. Varney & Co. led the way with an average median income of $176,900, followed by CAVUTO: Coast to Coast in second place with an average median income of $172,000. Mornings with Maria, The Big Money Show and The Claman Countdown rounded out the top 20 programs, each securing viewers with an average median income of $137,100 or greater.
