NYC Radio: Business News Reporter Joe Connolly Joins WABC

Highly respected business news reporter Joe Connolly joins WABC Radio for Business Success Stories with Joe Connolly, one-minute features that highlight local business success stories. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Connolly will interview a local business owner or operator who will share their story of success. Connolly was the business news reporter at WCBS-AM for more than 30 years and is known and trusted across the New York area.

“Joe is the best business news reporter in New York and a highly trusted source for business intelligence,” stated John Catsimatidis, Owner of Red Apple Media and WABC Radio. “In the midst of questions about the economy and where it’s going, Joe will find success stories that inspire others. New York radio listeners, especially those who own or run businesses, will benefit from these uplifting interviews.”

"John is showing radio stations around the country how to save radio and local news,” said Connolly. “He and my former colleague and friend from CBS, Chad Lopez, are leading the industry in finding new ways to reach more listeners through top-quality programming, promos, podcasts, audio production, and station events.

“When I hear John talk about helping the youth of New York through the Police Athletic League and other causes through his WABC Radio Foundation, I think to myself, ‘I want to be part of a radio station that truly uses its license for the good of its community,’” Connolly concluded.

“Joe is the most popular business news reporter on New York radio and is credited with changing the way business news is reported,” noted Chad Lopez, President of Red Apple Media and WABC Radio. “Joe’s ability to distill sometimes complex business issues into short form reports connects with listeners. I am delighted Joe is joining the WABC Radio on-air team, and I know our listeners will be thrilled, as well.”

Ratings showed listeners tuning in to WCBS from other radio stations to hear his reports. New York Magazine praised Connolly for “turning routine business news into instructive stories.” For many years, his “WCBS Joe Connolly Business Breakfasts” filled hotel ballrooms with business owners hearing ways that other owners are growing their businesses. Connolly has interviewed thousands of business owners, including most of the sharks on Shark Tank, including Mark Cuban, and other globally known business leaders. Barbara Corcoran says, “Joe Connolly was my first and best media friend.”

Connolly has held management roles at large radio companies in both New York and Washington. He has appeared on CNBC and the CBS Evening News and covered The White House and The Olympics. He has received numerous accolades, including from the New York Press Club, the New York Society of Public Accountants, Chambers of Commerce, and educators for "excellence in business reporting."
