Taylor Swift's TPD Claims 8% Of All Album Sales This Year

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is a once-in-a-decade kind of success story.

Forbes reports the singer’s latest album arrived a short time ago and blasted onto the Billboard charts with one of the largest debuts of all time. Since its impressive start, it’s continued to perform exceptionally well, and it’s now reached an incredible milestone in near-record time.

According to Billboard, The Tortured Poets Department has now sold two million copies in the U.S. That number is actual purchases of the title, and not equivalent units, which also take into account streaming activity. That total figure is significantly higher than pure sales.

In just its first two weeks of availability, The Tortured Poets Department has sold 2.021 million copies in America alone. Billboard notes that the project is now responsible for 8.4% of all album sales in the country so far this year.

The Tortured Poets Department sold almost all of those two million copies in just its first seven days. The set debuted on the charts with 1.914 million copies purchased, which marked the largest single-week sales sum in years.

In its second full frame, Swift’s latest continued to sell better than most albums will in their debut week. The Tortured Poets Department was purchased 107,000 times in week two, which pushed it over the two million-mark.

The Tortured Poets Department is, unsurprisingly, the bestselling album so far this year. There’s a very, very good chance that it will end 2024 as the top title, both in terms of actual sales and total units moved.

At present, Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is running the show on the Billboard 200 for a second consecutive frame. It appears that it will earn a third stay at No. 1 on the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country, and it may continue to rule for some time to come, as it doesn’t look like it’s about to face any serious competition for the throne.
