Fresno Radio: Cumulus' KMJ, Valley PBS Produce Anniversary Docu

Cumulus Media has announced that legendary Fresno radio station, Newstalk 580/105.9 KMJ has partnered with Valley PBS to produce a one-hour documentary telling the story of KMJ’s 100 years on air.

Hosted by John Broeske, “KMJ: 100 Years in the Valley” details the impact the station and its personalities have had on Fresno and the greater Central Valley of California over the past century.

The documentary debuted on Thursday on the PBS App, on Video.ValleyPBS.org, and on Youtube.com/ValleyPBS

“When KMJ went on the air, people didn’t have radios,” jokes Broeske in the teaser trailer for “KMJ: 100 Years in the Valley.”

KMJ hit the airwaves with just 50 watts of power on March 23, 1922. Eventually, with the threat of World War II looming, the FCC allowed KMJ to boost its power to a whopping 50,000 watts.

“KMJ: 100 Years in the Valley” was written and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Jeff Aiello. KMJ Program Director Blake Taylor served as a producer.
