Detroit Radio: Annual SAY Detroit Radiothon Raises $1.8M+

Cumulus Media announces that WJR Detroit afternoon drive host and author Mitch Albom’s 11th Annual Mitch Albom SAY Detroit Radiothon set a new fundraising record this year, raising more than $1,800,000 for Detroit charities that serve Detroiters in need.

The 15-hour radiothon, hosted by Albom and his WJR on-air partner, Ken Brown, was broadcast on WJR on Thursday, December 8th, from 6am-9pm and streamed live from Somerset North’s Grand Court.

This year’s Mitch Albom SAY Detroit Radiothon featured more celebrity guests than ever before, including Anderson Cooper, Steve Yzerman, Barry Sanders, Tim Allen, Hugh Jackman, Jared Goff, Jane Pauley, Hoda Kotb, Hank Azaria, Bradley Whitford, Tom Izzo and many more.

Since its first broadcast in 2012, the annual Mitch Albom SAY Detroit Radiothon has raised over $10 million to help the poor, the homeless, families without homes, children without medical care, students hoping to reach the college of their dreams and veterans who have hit hard times.

One hundred percent of all funds raised go directly to the needy through SAY (Super All Year) Detroit, an umbrella 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that funds programs including: the SAY Detroit Family Health Clinic, the SAY Play Center, Working Homes/Working Families, the Dream Scholars, and several other local charitable efforts that serve the area’s neediest and work towards a revitalized Detroit.

Mitch Albom said: “I am humbled every year at the incredible generosity of our audience and our friends around the country. Every dollar raised at our 11th annual radiothon will go to making Detroiters’ lives better, and that’s the best gift anyone can give at the holidays. I am so grateful to all the amazing people who made this happen.”

Steve Finateri, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Detroit, commented: “I’m not surprised by the outpouring of generosity from our audience. Thanks to Mitch Albom, 100% of the donations go directly to local charities addressing our community’s greatest needs. WJR is so proud to be a part of this annual effort!”
