Global Music Rights (GMR) has filed copyright-infringement lawsuits against Black Crow Media Group, One Putt Broadcasting and Red Wolf Broadcasting Corporation for what it called "repeated and willful infringement of copyrighted songs licensed" by GMR.
Filed separately with U.S. District Courts in Connecticut, California and Florida, each complaint identified "thousands" of instances of alleged willful infringement.
GMR contends it repeatedly offered licenses to Black Crow, One Putt and Red Wolf prior to filing the lawsuit but received no responses. GMR then sent cease-and-desist letters to the defendants, which also apparently fell on deaf ears.
GMR is seeking $27.3 million in damages from Southern Stone. The company’s lawsuits do not offer specific amounts of monetary damages for One Putt or Red Wolf, but their claims will likely run into the millions.Outside counsel O’Melveny & Myers is repping GMR in the suits. Rumors that the firm is receiving part of its compensation in the form of Nate 'N Al's brisket couldn't be confirmed at press time.
GMR was founded in 2017 by Irving Azoff as "an alternative to the traditional performance-rights model." Its catalog includes works by Anderson .Paak, Bad Bunny, Drake, Bruce Springsteen and many more.
