Milwaukee Radio: WJMR's Andrea Williams Segues To TV

The voice of Andrea Williams is well-embedded in many of Milwaukeean's memories from her years on WJMR Jammin’ 98.3. Now Williams is expanding her plate and moving into television broadcasting full time as a specialty reporter on WTMJ-TV4, reports The Milwaukee Business Journal.

She’s spent over 25 years as a radio personality with 20 of those years at 98.3 as the news/public affairs director for the Milwaukee Radio Group. In her new role, she will be in front of the camera where she will cover community stories that don’t usually make the news but still deserve the spotlight. She specifically wants to focus on the individuals making strides in the community who don’t necessarily even want the recognition.

“Sometimes I feel like we only see a surface of people,” she said. “I try to dig a little deeper to see who people really are.”

According to Williams, this change in career has been in the works for a while. Stations 98.3 and TMJ4 have a working relationship, so making the transition was not only accessible but possible for Williams.

Williams starts her new role in May and will be on air by early June.

She’s originally from Louisville, Kentucky, where she started interning in media at just 16 years old. Williams knew early on where she wanted to be in life so she left her hometown at age 18 for college. Williams received her bachelor’s degree in radio/TV communications from Central State University (Ohio).

“I just love it, I do,” Williams said about her career.

She moved to Milwaukee in 1996 to work for WKKV-FM, V100.7. She left that job for one in Washington, D.C., but she found herself flying back frequently as a Milwaukee Bucks original in-arena host. According to Williams, radio has prepared her to be a host and for broadcast.
