NYC Radio: Steve Somers' Last WFAN Show Is Friday Night

Steve Somers’ final full show on WFAN will be Friday night.

The station’s longest-serving host said on the air last month that he would be leaving "more sooner rather than later," and now there is an official date.

Somers will work 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, then WFAN will air a special program from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday with guest callers as he says goodbye to full-time work at the station.

In an interview with Neil Best at Newsday on Tuesday, Somers called the outpouring of well wishes he has gotten from callers in recent weeks "overwhelming."

"It’s been a blessing," he said. "It has been an honor. It is flattering. It’s been all of the above."

Somers, 74, was offered a chance to remain if he returned to his old overnight shift, but he declined. He said he is leaving the station on good terms.

"This was my dream," he said. "This was my destination. And I was able to realize it."
