SiriusXM Radio Has Just Pissed-Off Many Decades Listeners

Many faithful subscribers are wondering why in the world some suit at  SiriusXM thought it was a good idea to move some decades channels to new locations.  For example '60s On 6 Oldies' is being relocated to Channel 73. Industry observers are wondering why would SiriusXM abandoned 20+ years of branding?

No one at SiriusXM has explained why.  The changes will go into effect on Wednesday, Nov. 3.  The closest explanation being offered is evasive "to allow for even more great content".  Otherwise the company is mum, no official press release has been issued.

60s Personalities and promotional announcements assure subscribers they'll still hear the same 'awesome programming" but on a new home.

The full list of changes are:

  • The Pulse (from 15 to 5)
  • The Coffee House (from 14 to 6)
  • 102.7 KIIS-FM (from 11 to 14)
  • Siriusly Sinatra (from 71 to 70)
  • 40s Junction (from 73 to 71)
  • 50s On 5 (from 5 to 72 as 50s Gold)
  • 60s On 6 (from 6 to 73 as 60s Gold)
  • On Broadway (from 72 to 77)
  • Kidz Bop (from 77 to 79)
  • SiriusXM Love will also move online only on 708.
To some it sounds as if SiriusXM has fixed a problem that didn't exist.  Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, SiriusXM said  Thursday that it added 616,000 self-paying subscribers in its satellite radio unit in the third quarter, beating the 169,000 additions recorded in the same period in 2020 and exceeding its full-year growth target nine months into the year.

The company lost 59,000 net self-pay subscribers in its Pandora music streaming business though, ending September with 6.5 million total users.
