Trump was briefed on the situation by Governor Gavin Newsom and other state and federal officials. When the state's Natural Resources Agency Secretary Wade Crowfoot urged Trump to recognize that climate change is having a major effect, Trump said, "It will start getting cooler, just you watch." When Crowfoot said he wished the science agreed with Trump, the president said, "I don't think science knows, actually." In earlier excerpts released last week, it was shown that Trump told Woodward in February and March about the seriousness of the coronavirus, how it spread through the air and was deadlier than the flu, but said that he played it down publicly because he didn't want, quote, "to create a panic." Trump told Woodward in mid-March, "I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down because I don’t want to create a panic."

Ravnsborg had been driving home from a Republican fundraiser Saturday night at the time of the accident that killed 55-year-old Joseph Boever, who'd crashed his truck in the area earlier and was apparently walking near the road toward it.
