Westwood One News To Air Veterans Day Reports

CUMULUS MEDIA’s Westwood One, America’s largest audio network, is announcing an 11-part series of reports in honor of the brave men and women of our military. Each Veterans Day report is approximately one minute long and will feature the men and women who make up the U.S. veteran population. They include perspectives from national leaders and veterans of varying ages, and look into how veterans view their service and the day set aside to honor it.

The reports will examine health, education and readjustment issues impacting veterans — and provide listeners ways they can show concern for those who’ve worn their nation’s uniform — by making Veterans Day not just an occasion to offer former military people a “thanks for your service,” but a day of service to those who’ve served.  The series is reported and produced by Westwood One News reporter Chas Henry, himself a combat decorated veteran of the 1991 Gulf War.

Westwood One’s Veterans Day Reports Include:

1. A history of how Veterans Day came to be.
2. An Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, on adjusting to life after the infantry.
3. A WWII vet, on his military experience as a member of the “greatest generation.”
4. A West Point graduate on what he learned from leading soldiers during two tours in Iraq.
5. An organization looking to connect veterans with new employment opportunities in the entertainment production industry.
6. A small liberal arts college in Salt Lake City that is helping vets graduate by creating a one-stop shopping Veterans Center on campus.
7. A woman who served in the Marines from the 1960s into the 1980s talking about how -- even at VA centers -- people don't assume that a woman can be a veteran.
8. Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ), a retired Air Force attack pilot and squadron commander, sharing the challenges veterans face when dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
9. A former Army officer on how some returning veterans could benefit from looking to the example WWII veterans set with regard to transitioning back to civilian life.
10. The manager of an American Legion post discussing why fewer young veterans are affiliating with traditional veterans service organizations -- and why he believes they should.
11. A consultant who helps men and women leaving the military to get back into the civilian workforce.
