MSN, Radio Ink Team For Radio Sales Compensation Study


Media Staffing Network (MSN) is proud to partner with Radio Ink on The 2019 Radio Sales Compensation Study, which will be released during this year’s NAB/RAB Radio Show. The study begins with a two-minute survey for managers and sellers that launches today, Monday, July 8, and runs through Friday, July 26. The goal of the study is to guide radio owners, operators, and managers to develop sales compensation packages that attract – and keep – the best candidates, including those from younger demographics, in today’s highly competitive hiring landscape.

“With radio stations regularly sharing their frustration about the difficulty of hiring sellers, and with the strong advice to get away from the outdated compensation model of offering a 90-day guarantee and then moving new hires to 100 percent commission, we felt it was time to gather some actual facts,” stated Laurie Kahn, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Media Staffing Network.

To help the radio industry gain this knowledge MSN teamed with Radio Ink to get the word out so that a large survey sample can be collected.

All survey participants will be entered in a random drawing to win one of three licenses to MSN’s Local Sales Recruitment Online Learning Program. Each license is valued at $999 and is good for one year for up to three users at one station. Winners will be notified by MSN in early August. In addition, all survey participants will receive an advance copy of The Compensation Study.

“Older compensation models are disappearing in today’s hiring marketplace, and many radio owners and managers are not aware of the financial package required to hire and retain the next generation of sellers,” Kahn continued. “In a competitive hiring market like we are now seeing -- and will continue to see for many years -- it is imperative for owners and operators to fully grasp what the hiring costs are today. The days of offering a low salary and high incentive or no salary and all commission are gone.”
