S-F Radio: Greg Papa Returning To KNBR

Cumulus Media announced today the addition of two new programs to KNBR 680AM’s weekday lineup.

Beginning Tuesday, July 16, 2019, Papa & Lund with Greg Papa and John Lund will broadcast Monday through Friday from 10am–2pm PT, marking the return of Greg Papa to the KNBR airwaves via a multi-year agreement.

Papa previously hosted his own show on KNBR 1050 from 2001-2003. Papa will host the weekday 10am-2pm timeslot alongside John Lund, whom he worked with for five years previously.

Upon joining the 49ers earlier this year, Papa became the first Bay Area broadcaster to have a role with five of the region’s major professional teams. He previously served as the voice of the Warriors (TV & radio – 1986-97), Giants (TV & radio – 2004-08), Oakland A’s (TV – 1990-2003) and Oakland Raiders (radio – 1997-2017). Papa currently hosts NBC Sports Bay Area’s San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors Pregame Live and Postgame Live shows.

KNBR Program Director Jeremiah Crowe said: “Greg brings unrivaled knowledge and top-notch entertainment value to every broadcast he leads. His connection with the Bay Area sports fan runs deep on many levels through his history in the local market, and we are proud to reunite him with John Lund in mid-days on The Sports Leader.”

“I am thrilled to be returning to the powerful airwaves of The Sports leader,” said Papa. “Being reunited with John Lund on the flagship station of the 49ers is the perfect combination.”

KNBR 680AM is also excited to announce that Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks will debut as a weekday afternoon show from 2pm–6pm PT beginning July 16. The show features Tom Tolbert, Larry Krueger and Rod Brooks, popular on-air personalities that have been part of the station for a combined total of 67 years.

As part of the changes to KNBR 680AM’s weekday programming lineup, The Mark Willard Show has been extended from three hours to four hours, now broadcasting from 6pm-10pm PT, Monday through Friday. Longtime personality Gary Radnich, who joined KNBR in 1992, will be leaving the station concurrent with the launch of the new on-air schedule.

Doug Harvill, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus San Francisco, said: “From the time Gary Radnich started at KNBR he was a pioneer in the sports-talk format. He built a close relationship with listeners through his entertaining and intriguing perspective on sports and life. I cannot express how appreciative all of us at KNBR are for the opportunity to have partnered with him on his KNBR journey.”

With the changes to the KNBR 680AM lineup, the station also announces the departure of Bob Fitzgerald, who had served as a host for the station since 1990. Fitzgerald will continue to serve as the Warriors’ play-by-play voice on NBC Sports Bay Area and as voice of U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“Quite simply I’d like to thank everyone that I had the great fortune of working with at KNBR,” said Fitzgerald. “From my co-hosts, in particular Rod Brooks, to our tremendous producers and staff I have encountered over the great many years. For three decades it has been my great privilege to entertain the incredible sports fans of the Bay Area. KNBR will always have a special place in my heart and I wish everyone at the station all the best moving forward.”
