Westwood One News Presents 'America on the Eve of War'

In 1939, America was celebrating the end of the Great Depression, the film classics “The Wizard of Oz” and “Gone with the Wind” debuted in theaters, and the New York World’s Fair had the country looking ahead to interstate highways, robots, and a new medium called television. But underneath the joy, darkness was looming as storm clouds filled the skies of Europe and Germany was about to rise.

Westwood One News goes back 80 years into its archives to present America on the Eve of War, a half-hour special available to affiliates on Memorial Day Weekend. Correspondent Barbara Kusak hosts this powerful updated look back at the events leading up to the year Germany invaded Poland, Britain and France attacked Germany, and World War II was launched.

This special Westwood One News America on the Eve of War content is available to affiliated stations for unlimited use from Friday, May 21, 2019 through Monday, May 24, 1029.
