Broadcasting By the Numbers

The Commission has announced the following totals for broadcast stations licensed as of
March 31, 2019:

The FCC tally shows there were 6,762 full-power commercial FMs licensed as of March 31. That’s an increase of 20 FMs compared to a year earlier. But at the same time the number of AMs continued to shrink, declining an additional 20 stations to a total of 4,613 licensed AMs. It's the smallest number since the 1980s.
