Twin Cities Radio: Talker Al Malmberg OUT At WCCO-AM
Entersom's WCCO 830 AM has canceled "The Al Malmberg Show." It's not the first time. The talk-show host was first let go in 2008, then rehired in November 2013 to do an evening show from his barn in Colorado.
On Tuesday, Malmberg was told his show would no longer air; station management has declined to comment on the reason or what its long-range plans are to run starting at 9 p.m. weekdays, reports The Star-Tribune.
"I absolutely love 'CCO and the 17 years I spent there," Malmberg said Friday morning. "It was great when they asked me to come back and they made it so easy for me to do from Colorado where I could spend time with my grandkids. Sometimes on the air, you could even hear the coyotes in the background. It was the best of both worlds."
Malmberg, 68, said he hasn't decided whether to look for another radio gig or retire.
Not sorry. Listened to him off and on to put me to sleep. Always thought he was over the top on his personal opinions saying to disagreeing listeners "it's my show" He thought he was way funnier than he actually was. Not the brightest bulb either. Once said, "I have no idea how far a meter is". That's like 3rd grade stuff. Stay in Colorado.
ReplyDeleteI think this is horrible what this company did.
ReplyDeleteAl Malmberg not only had a large following and great ratings, he was a down to earth man and great host.
He was the WCCO logo, "Good neighbor"
Rotten to just pull him from his listeners with no warning, reason, or chance to say goodbye!

What a great radio talk show host I'm going to miss the lonely guy & Friends talking Al was very knowledgeable and had a lot of common sense which most people don't have today
ReplyDeleteHe was rude to many of his callers who didn't agree with his politics. I listened just to see if anyone could out-talk him. But he had the ultimate "punishment" - he just cut them off. He tried to be a bit more courteous toward the end, by saying he appreciated the call, but it never rang true. All in all, strangely, i did enjoy the show
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Rude, have you listened to either of the Hartmans or Mike Max? I miss Al--he was a fresh switch from the liberal media!!
DeleteListened to Al for years. Sorry to see him go. He was a great interviewer for guests.
ReplyDeleteI am sure missing Al in the evenings. I have listened to him for years. He is a great talk show host. WCCO sure blindsided him. I will find a different station. I don't want to listen to sports talk all evening. I will also miss the lonely guy and Toni. I hope I find him on a different station.
ReplyDeleteYou need to bring Al back this new guy isn't very good I guess I'll be looking for another radio station to listen to
ReplyDeleteWe don't like listening to sports all night either. Really miss Al and his trivia guests. Will look for a new station to listen to.
ReplyDeleteHe was very popular, I assume he will show up on a competing station.
ReplyDeleteI miss Al, don't care for Lake! Poor decision on management's part
ReplyDeleteNot listening to at night anymore big mistake letting him go wow you guys blew it again.
ReplyDeleteNew guy stinks, sooooo boring, no more sports needed. Finding another station.
ReplyDeletePoor decision to let Al go. He had an easy to listen to demeanor and understands Minnesota! I too have chosen another station to listen to. It would be nice to hear Al over the airwaves again elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteSick of all sports on wcco. Only listen to Dave Lee, the last good neighbor. You have ruined a great station when you fired Al Malmberg. Now all you have are sports and politics. No more tuning in to 830.
ReplyDeleteAgree....no longer have my radio on at night....don’t want to listen to sports...very disappointed....
