Milwaukee Radio: Storm Relief Effort Airs On WTMJ, WKTI
News/Talk WTMJ 620 AM and Country WKTI 94.5 FM have initiated "Wisconsin Strong – Storm Relief," a fundraiser to benefit the victims of this month’s historic severe weather and flooding around the state of Wisconsin.
"Many towns in our state have been ravaged by high winds and major flooding," said Tom Langmyer, vice president and general manager of WTMJ and WKTI and vice president, news/talk/sports for The E.W. Scripps Company.
"We want to encourage our listeners to help our neighbors recover from the major damage left in the wake of these powerful storms. Through our Radiothon this Friday, story coverage and grassroots volunteerism, we hope to make a positive and quick difference in our region."
Record flooding in WTMJ’s listening area caused by more than a foot of rain in less than 24 hours has caused major damage. Strong winds and heavy rain have impacted the communities of Lomira, Cascade, Byron, Port Washington, Campbellsport, Fredonia and others. Additionally, areas near La Crosse, Wisconsin have been devasted.
The National Weather Service confirmed several tornadoes which uprooted trees, snapped utility poles and downed power lines. Rising flood waters have caused concern in Thiensville, near Milwaukee, where the river crest is close to record levels.
The WTMJ "Wisconsin Strong – Storm Relief" Radiothon airs between 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 31st. Volunteers from the American Red Cross will be taking donations at that time.
