Lubbock Radio: Country KSSL Named 'Station of the Year'

The CMA of Texas has selected KSSL-FM as their "Radio Station of the Year" for 2019.

The organization states the selection was an easy one due to the station's commitment to playing a wide variety of country music spanning many different decades, including Western music and independent artists - true to the spirit of the CMA of Texas.

KSSL 107.3 FM / Translator K231BE 94.1 FM (Lubbock) is owned and operated by Cathy Whitten.

The station has recently received impressive awards including: "Station of the Year" by the Artist Music Guild; and "Station of the Year" by the Academy of Western Artists. As Cathy says, "we love to support local musicians including the Lubbock NOW Project."

The CMA of Texas in cooperation with KSSL-FM is making plans to extend its reach into West Texas and will be hosting scheduled audition shows in the area as early as November of this year. The listening area for the station includes Plainview, Floydada, Ralls, Abernathy, Littlefield, Levelland, Slaton, Brownfield. Tahoka. Post, Lamesa. Snyder and Rotan.

For a bit of history, the CMA of Texas was begun in the 70's by James White, owner of the Broken Spoke in Austin, TX. and his friend, Mr. Bud Fisher, a Waco DJ. With Mr. Fisher's death in 2008, Mr. Pat Grogan became the head of the association. In 2012, Mr. Grogan contacted Mary Minter to assist, and an official non-profit was formed in early 2013 registered in the State of Texas as the Country Music Artists Association.
