Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said that quarterback J.T. Barrett's third quarter knee injury in the Buckeyes' 31-20 win against rival Michigan was a "non-football injury" and came as a result of a cameraman clashing with Barrett's knee on the sideline prior to kickoff.
USAToday reports Meyer told reporters after the game that there were "too many damn people on the sideline" and that an "investigation is underway" to find the person who caused the injury. "I'm gonna find out who," Meyer said.
According to ESPN, Ohio State's sidelines were filled with VIPs, former players, reporters, photographers, cameramen, security and team support staffs.
Barrett demonstrated to reporters how the injury happened, saying his knee twisted when someone tried to squeeze by him and it aggravated a problem he has been playing with. It did not keep him from starting, but after a run in the third quarter he stayed down on the field and grabbed his right knee. He limped off the field and toward the locker room. Barrett said that the person who led to the injury was someone "wearing gray."
