Donald Trump Jr. Shakes Off Russian Meeting Controversy
President Trump's eldest son brushed off controversy on Tuesday over his meeting with a Russian lawyer last year, arguing the media has worked to exaggerate the revelation that he sought damaging information from a source he believed to be connected to the Kremlin.
"I think it's a little bit ridiculous and overplayed," Donald Trump Jr. said of the reaction to the meeting Tuesday during an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity.
Assording to the Washington Examiner, hours earlier, Trump Jr. published four pages of emails that shed light on how he and other senior campaign officials arranged a meeting with a Russian lawyer peddling "sensitive" information about Hillary Clinton in June 2016.
Trump Jr. denied colluding with Russia to interfere in the election by accepting an invitation to such a meeting, as critics have accused him of doing.
"There's nothing that I would do to ever endanger this country," Trump said. He denied having any additional contact with the Russian attorney, Natalia Veselnitskaya.
"There isn't anything else there," Trump said. "It was such a nothing, there was no reason to follow up."
Trump said he agreed to attend the meeting before Russian election meddling became a fixation for much of Washington. His meeting came more than a month before WikiLeaks began publishing daily troves of emails stolen from the inbox of John Podesta, Clinton's campaign chairman.
