WWOne Sports Sound Awards Celebrate Excellence

For the fourth consecutive year, Westwood One presents the Westwood One Sports Sound Awards and will be challenging its advertisers to push their creative boundaries to create the best commercials to air during its Super Bowl LI broadcast. After all, why should TV have all the fun?! Westwood One salutes excellence in audio creative by showcasing the best radio commercials within the biggest sporting and advertising event of the year, the Super Bowl.

“Our agency has always had a fondness for radio as an opportunity to do great work,” said Chris Smith Creative Group Head/Writer, The Richards Group. “We take special pride in our ability to create entertaining radio that builds brands and drives sales. Participating in the Westwood One Sports Sound Awards gives us a chance to reach a huge audience for our client while showcasing great radio creative for our agency and our industry.”

Westwood One -- through its programming, experiential events, social, and digital assets — will be driving fans and a panel of advertising professionals to TheSoundAwards.com to vote for their favorite ads, all leading up to the big reveal of the top 5 the day after Super Sunday. Voting is open NOW and runs through Monday, February 6, 2017.

Westwood One is the exclusive network radio partner of the NFL and will broadcast national play-by-play coverage of Super Bowl LI from NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on Sunday, February 5, 2017. The Westwood One Sports Sound Awards will feature national commercials airing on the 650+ radio stations and 150+ FM translators airing Westwood One’s Super Bowl LI national broadcast, on the American Forces Radio Network, SiriusXM, the TuneIn radio app, and via NFL Game Pass, which is available on NFL.com and the NFL Mobile from Verizon app.

Last year’s Sound Award winner, Service King, earned the top spot with a commercial that showcased their dedication to hiring military veterans across the country at all of their locations.  Previous Sound Awards winners were Poo-Pourri and Motel 6.

“Great advertising is a competitive sporting event when it comes to the Super Bowl,” said Suzanne Grimes, Westwood One President and EVP, Corporate Marketing for Cumulus Media. “We are pleased to provide some of our most innovative marketing partners the stage to showcase their best audio creative within one of the most listened to programs all year – the Super Bowl on Westwood One.”

During Westwood One’s game day coverage on Super Sunday, President Donald Trump will do a one-on-one interview with Emmy-Award winning broadcaster and Westwood One host Jim Gray. Super Bowl Sunday will kick off with the network’s pregame coverage, which launches at 2 pm ET with Super Bowl Preview and Super Bowl Insider.  Live coverage begins with Super Sunday at 4 pm ET. Country music’s multi-platinum, superstar act Big & Rich will kick off the live broadcast with an exclusive remixed version of their hit song “Party Like Cowboyz.” The customized opening theme will be mixed with highlights and sound. The game is set in motion at 5 pm ET, live from NRG Stadium in Houston.
