Cleveland Radio: J-G Spooner May Face More Charges

J G Spooner
Cleveland police are investigating former radio personality Joseph "J.G." Spooner for collecting thousands of dollars in fraudulent rent payments while he was under indictment for stealing from a friend's GoFundMe account, according to police reports.

According to cleveland.com, Spooner took nearly $6,000 from at least six people who responded to a Craigslist ad to rent a home that Spooner did not own or have permission to lease, according to Cleveland police reports. Some of the payments were made after prosecutors pointed out the scheme in court records.

Detectives have also launched their own investigation after the owner of a credit union told police on Thursday that Spooner had tried to cash fraudulent or forged checks.

Spooner, a former host on Cleveland's WKRK 92.3 FM The Fan, pleaded guilty Nov. 7 to taking more than $7,700 from a GoFundMe account he helped manage for his longtime friend who suffered from cystic fibrosis.

He was indicted by a grand jury in May and scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday.

Judge Brian J. Corrigan postponed the sentencing after prosecutors said police in Cleveland and Fairview Park were preparing to take a new case against Spooner to a grand jury for possible fresh charges.
